Gentlemen, we can reboot him.
Argentine filmmaker Damian Szifron has been tapped to write the screenplay for “The Six Billion Dollar Man,” an update of the 1970s television series “The Six Million Dollar Man,” TWC-Dimension announced Tuesday.
Szifron, 39, most recently wrote and directed the revenge-themed anthology film “Wild Tales,” which became the most successful movie in Argentina’s history and was nominated for this year’s foreign-language Oscar. Szifron is also known for creating the television series “Los Simuladores,” about a crack team of con artists for hire.
He’ll write “The Six Billion Dollar Man” for director Peter Berg and star Mark Wahlberg.
Based on the aforementioned TV show starring Lee Majors as well as Martin Caidin’s novel “Cyborg” (the original source material), the new film will put a contemporary twist and a new price tag on the story of a military officer (Wahlberg) who suffers a near-fatal accident and is rebuilt by the government with cutting-edge technology.
Szifron, a fan of the original TV series as a kid, said in the announcement: “Such a major challenge represents a great opportunity. The themes surrounding this beloved property allow for the creation of a memorable sci-fi actioner as well as a bold spy thriller. Expectations are high and I’ll do my best to deliver the strongest basis for an amazing cinematic experience.”
