Reese Witherspoon is recipient of American Cinematheque Award
Reese Witherspoon has something to be excited about.
The American Cinematheque announced Thursday that Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”) is the recipient of the 29th American Cinematheque Award. The 39-year-old actress/producer (“Gone Girl”) is to receive the honor at a gala at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza on Oct. 30
“The American Cinematheque is extremely pleased to honor Reese Witherspoon as the 29th recipient of the American Cinematheque award at our celebration this year,’ Rick Nicita, American Cinematheque chairman, said in a statement Thursday. “Reese Witherspoon’s career is a perfect example of an actress flourishing in today’s world.”
Witherspoon, who made her film debut in 1991’s “The Man in the Moon,” was the unanimous choice of the Cinematheque’s board of directors. Funds raised from the gala benefit the year-round programming of the nonprofit cultural organization.
The actress earned an Oscar nomination for 2014’s “Wild” and recently starred in the comedy “Hot Pursuit.”
Previous honorees include Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Steve Martin, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Matthew McConaughey.
Co-chairs and presenters of the event are to be announced later.
