‘Birdman,’ ‘Big Hero 6’ earn Cinema Audio Society awards for sound

“Birdman” and “Big Hero 6” won the feature film honors Saturday evening in Los Angeles at the 51st Cinema Audio Society Awards.

The team from “Birdman” won the Cinema Audio Society award for sound mixing in a live-action motion picture. “Big Hero 6” won the prize for sound mixing in an animated motion picture.

On the television side, “Sherlock: His Last Vow” won for sound mixing in a television movie or miniseries, and the “Game of Thrones” episode titled “The Children” earned the award for one-hour series.

The team behind the “Modern Family” episode titled “Australia” won sound mixing for a half-hour TV series, and the “Los Angeles” episode of “Foo Fighters Sonic Highways” took home the award in the television nonfiction, variety or music series or specials category.

Production sound mixer David Macmillan received the CAS career achievement award. Oscar-nominated “Boyhood” writer-director Richard Linklater was presented with the CAS filmmaker award; and University of Colorado Denver student Danny Maurer won the CAS student recognition award.

The awards were held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown L.A. The complete list of winners:
