John Mayer ‘humiliated’ by Taylor Swift’s ‘cheap’ song attack
John Mayer isn’t afraid to take blame for the heartache he’s inflicted on various Hollywood and music starlets -- and in the case of Taylor Swift, he’s not afraid to dish it out either.
Particularly when it comes to the 2010 Swift track “Dear John.â€
Mayer was “really humiliated†by the tune, allegedly written about their romantic entanglement and its wrenching end, he told Rolling Stone.
“I didn’t deserve it,†he said. “I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.â€
“I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?†Mayer said.
The track in question features lyrics such as, “Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don’t you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?â€
Mayer didn’t want to address the age question that Swift, now 22, posed in the 2010 song, but did note, “As a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting.â€
Careful, John -- she’s back in the studio, and more than capable of writing a sequel.
