Hollywood Headlines: A crazy week in review
It seemed there were two ways folks spent their money this week: on Mega Millions tickets and/or “The Hunger Games.†The Jennifer Lawrence-starring blockbuster took in $155 million in domestic receipts over the weekend, which was impressive (but not as big as the lottery jackpot). The film’s performance has also inspired studios to go on a spending spree to snap up the movie rights to even modestly successful novels featuring similar themes. After being spurned for years, Will Ferrell said that a sequel to 2004’s “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy†(pictured) would indeed be made by Paramount Pictures. Ferrell made the announcement on “Conan†on Wednesday in character as Ron Burgundy, the scotch-drinking, flute-playing anchor of the Channel 4 Evening News team. But will it be successful? Bluegrass banjo legend Earl Scruggs died Wednesday at age 88.
