Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’ trailer puts the new hero in his classic comic book tiara

Marvel fans got a bigger glimpse of “Luke Cage” than ever before on Tuesday, with the Netflix release of a full-length trailer for the upcoming superhero series.
Mike Colter (“The Good Wife”) plays the eponymous lead, an ex-con whose super-strength and bulletproof skin make him a formidable force for good. Cage, introduced on-screen in last year’s Netflix series “Jessica Jones,” is shown in the trailer leading a new life after relocating to Harlem.
The look into Cage’s future also reveals more about his mysterious past. At one point the trailer features a shot of Colter standing next to the wreckage of a failed experiment wearing a version of the comic book character’s signature tiara and bracelets, though with a bit of a twist, for a more modern audience.
Running 2½ minutes, the trailer allows for plenty of screen time for Colter’s costars, including Mahershala Ali (“House of Cards”) as villainous Cornell Stokes, Alfre Woodard (“12 Years a Slave”) as local politician Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick (“Ray Donovan”) as detective Misty Knight and Theo Rossi (“Sons of Anarchy”) as Stokes henchman “Shades” Alvarez.
The look at the first season even includes a shot of “Daredevil” star Rosario Dawson as nurse Claire Temple, the only character to appear in all of Netflix’s Marvel endeavors (“Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones”) to date.
The 13 hour-long episodes of “Luke Cage” will debut on Netflix on Sept. 30.
