Vanessa Williams: New engagement is one of ‘a lot of blessings’
Vanessa Williams is engaged to Jim Skrip and she has the bountiful ring to prove it.
“The Trip to Bountiful” star confirmed the news while filming the Sept. 30 episode of “The Queen Latifah Show” and showed off her massive sparkler on the talk show’s couch.
Her rep also confirmed the news to the Los Angeles Times.
“Vanessa, I have been trying to have a conversation with you ladies and gents, but I am blinded by the light coming from that bling ring on your finger,” host Queen Latifah said to her guest, who was accompanied by “Bountiful” costars Blair Underwood and Tony Award-winner Cicely Tyson.
“I got engaged,” the actress replied. “I have had a lot of good things happen while I’ve been on this lovely trip. I turned 50 when we were in rehearsal on Broadway and I just got engaged a couple of weeks ago. So it’s been a lot of blessings.”
The short-lived Miss America appeared with Tyson and Underwood in the TV-movie version of the Broadway play that aired on Lifetime earlier this year. The stage version begins its run at Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre on Friday.
The “Ugly Betty” alum has been married twice before: She was first wed to her former manager, Ramon Hervey II, from 1987 to 1997. The couple had three children together, son Devin and daughters Melanie and Jillian.
Williams went on to marry basketball star Rick Fox in 1999, and they had daughter Sasha Gabriella together. They divorced in 2004.
