Robyn Lawley is Sports Illustrated’s first plus-size swimsuit model
Robyn Lawley is making news as the first plus-size model to grace the editorial portion of Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit issue -- which seems only fair, given that the magazine definitely downsized Hannah Davis’ bikini bottoms on the cover.
Lawley, one of six “rookies†in this year’s lineup of models, is a 25-year-old from Australia who the magazine says is also a blogger, painter, author and, under the name Robelle, a DJ.
She is also, according to website the Gloss, a size 10. Or, according to Time, a size 12. Or, according to her Facebook page, currently a size bigger than both of those numbers -- because she’s pregnant.
Ashley Graham, who’s curvier than Lawley is, made headlines Wednesday as the first plus-size model to appear in a paid advertisement in the swimsuit issue.
Despite being new to SI, Lawley is hardly a rookie in the modeling world. She’s been on fashion covers around the world, according to her website, and was the first plus-size model on the cover of Australian Vogue.
Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit 2015 issue goes on sale Monday.
