‘Picky’ Julia Roberts is focused on being a mom
Julia Roberts’ top priority is her family, not her career. And that’s totally fine with her.
In a recent interview with The Times’ Amy Kaufman, the “August: Osage County†star opened up about prioritizing her home life and often putting her children -- twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 9, and son Henry, 6, with husband Danny Moder -- ahead of her work. The iconic redhead is also quite discerning when it comes to the jobs she takes.
“I think people like to say that I’m super picky because of how much I lo-oo-ve my kids,†Roberts said. “But as an actor, I sort of pride myself on the fact that I’ve always been picky.â€

The Oscar-winning mom has slowed things down significantly since the height of her popularity in the 1990s, making about one movie a year now.
“There’s a couple things at play. For one, I’m 46 years old, so falling out of chairs isn’t as funny. I could break a hip,†she added. “Certain scenarios that worked 10 years ago aren’t as appealing, as applicable, as believable, as original — all those things.â€
Despite her focus on domesticity, the actress recently told David Letterman she doesn’t plan to have more kids after a rash of recent pregnancy rumors competed for her “August†headlines.

“When I met her,†said her “Pretty Woman†director Garry Marshall, “she was worried about dating and how she looked and her career. And now she worries about being a mom. I think she’s good at that part.â€
Still, when she does get those film parts, she brings that star power she’s always had: The actress earned supporting actress nods from the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes when nominations were announced earlier this month. Not too shabby, eh?
