Jennifer Lopez spills on Ben Affleck’s style, Mariah Carey feud
Jennifer Lopez has succumbed to the revelatory tactics of Andy Cohen’s “Plead the Fifth†game.
The “I Luh Ya Papi†singer, who finalized her divorce with ex-husband Marc Anthony just this week, appeared on Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live†on Thursday and the gregarious host was keen to have her spill some details about her love life and a rumored feud with pop siren Mariah Carey.
The mother of two has been busy promoting her upcoming album “A.K.A.†and though she’s answered more than her share of questions about her personal life, the answers don’t seem to get old.
Lopez’s storied romances include three marriages, three divorces and high-profile runs with mogul Sean Diddy Combs and Oscar-winner Ben Affleck, the latter of whom led to the coining “Bennifer†and the glut of celebrity nicknames we have today.
Cohen asked the 44-year-old mom about her influence on her former fiance’s demeanor. The then-slovenly Oscar-winner polished his look while dating the “American Idol†judge and she was happy to take the credit for dressing tips while they dated in the early 2000s.
“I did kind of like say, ‘You need to be, you know, you’re a movie star! You should wear a suit, you know? You should do this with your hair. For sure! I mean, I do that and, by the way, they do that...guys do that to girls too. Like, ‘I like that dress better than the other dress. For sure, he was into it. He didn’t do anything he didn’t wanna do.â€
The next question was about her rumored feud with her contemporary, Mariah Carey, who also judged “Idol.â€
“I don’t have a feud against her at all,†Lopez said. “I know from back in the day, I’ve read things that she’s said about me that were not the greatest, but we have never met. Like, we don’t know each other. I think it’s kind of from word of mouth of things that have happened in the past that I’m not really aware of. But I don’t know.â€
She added that she’s always been a fan of Carey’s, who she believes is “incredibly talented,†and would love to meet her and be friends with her.
“‘My All’ is one of my favorite songs of all time. So, I just love her. So, it saddens me to hear anything that’s negative because I’m a fan of hers,†she said.
Finally, Cohen asked her who she believes is better in bed: dancers, singers or actors, since she’s dated all of them.
That’s when she started cackling.
“I have to say that, in my limited experience, I would have to say anybody involved in music. So, singers and dancers.â€
Realizing she didn’t use her “plead the fifth†card to get a pass on that question, she burst out laughing again.
Cohen then segued into the topic of dancers. Lopez used to be one as a Fly Girl, married a dancer (Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003) and recently broke up with her former backup dancer Casper Smart.
So what’s the best and worst part about dating a dancer, he asked.
“I mean, there’s no bad part to it, really. No. It’s not about the fact that they’re a dancer or not a dancer,†Lopez said. “I’ve dated two dancers. One, I had a brief marriage with Cris Judd, who is an amazing person and who I love, and then Beau [Smart], who we just broke up, who I love as well and he’s a good friend.â€
Incidentally, in a March interview with Big Boy (Note: Link contains profanity), she said that if given the choice and she had to save one, she’d let both Diddy and Affleck drown.
“That’s terrible!†I’m just joking! I love you! It was the punch line!â€
