There was a lot of cheering at the Golden Globes viewing party held by media conglomerate 21st Century Fox on Sunday night.

Fox had a better night than any its competitors, scoring a total of eight trophies from the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. for its movie and TV properties. Comcast was the only other company that was close, racking up a total of four.

The timing of Sunday’s awards is particularly good for the 20th Century Fox release “The Revenant,†which opened wide in theaters over the weekend and scored a surprising $38 million at the box office. The film is likely to see a boost after taking the Golden Globe for motion picture drama, while Leonardo DiCaprio was recognized for acting and Alejandro G. Iñárritu was honored for directing.

Picking up two Globes should also help the 20th Century Fox-distributed sci-fi hit “The Martian,†which won for motion picture comedy and an acting honor for Matt Damon. Though the film is already a massive box-office hit with nearly $600 million in worldwide receipts, the DVD version is being released Tuesday. An HD video-on-demand version has been available on several digital platforms since Dec. 22.

Twentieth also saw a win for “Joy,†with Jennifer Lawrence taking home a trophy for best actress in a motion picture, comedy or musical.

On the TV side, Lady Gaga’s win for “American Horror Story: Hotel†showed the upside for stars taking a chance by appearing on a limited-run series. Taraji P. Henson’s acting honor for Fox’s “Empire†was one of only two wins for broadcast network TV shows, the other going to Rachel Bloom, star of the CW musical comedy “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.â€
