Constantine Maroulis says ‘Jekyll’ will open on Broadway in April

“American Idol†alumnus Constantine Maroulis has revealed via Twitter that the new revival of the musical “Jekyll and Hyde,†in which he will star alongside Deborah Cox, is to open on Broadway in April.

The actor tweeted this week that the production will open in April at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York. The musical is to embark on a North American tour before arriving on Broadway.

Southern California audiences are to get a chance to see the new production first when it opens next month at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The musical is set to run Sept. 7-30 as a preview engagement. From there, the production is scheduled to travel to San Diego, running Oct. 2-7.

“Jekyll†is set to return to Southern California in early 2013 when the tour comes to the Pantages for an engagement from Feb. 12 to March 3.

The tour is scheduled to stop in Houston, Toronto, Denver and Philadelphia, among other cities.

“Jekyll,†based on the Robert Louis Stevenson novel, features songs by Leslie Bricusse and Frank Wildhorn. It first debuted on Broadway in 1997, following a tour, and ran for more than three years.

The new revival is directed by Jeff Calhoun. Maroulis last appeared on Broadway in the jukebox musical “Rock of Ages,†and starred in its national tour as well.
