Carly Rae Jepsen is new ‘Cinderella’ on Broadway
Carly Rae Jepsen is the latest reality-TV pop star who will attempt to parlay her mass appeal into Broadway dollars. The Canadian-born singer will take on the title role in the current Broadway production of “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella†starting Feb. 4 for a 12-week run at the Broadway Theatre in New York.
Jepsen will take over the role from Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes, who has been performing in the musical since it began previews in January. The new cast will also feature Fran Drescher in the role of the cruel stepmother.

In 2012, Jepsen’s single “Call Me Maybe†was a worldwide hit, catapulting the former reality-TV contestant to international fame. Jepsen was a contestant on the “Canadian Idol†reality competition series, taking third place in 2007.
Jepsen, 28, joins a long list of reality TV singers who have tried to translate their pop-star status into Broadway success. Past crossovers include “American Idol†alumni Justin Guarini, Constantine Maroulis and Fantasia Barrino.
