The sun is setting on “After Midnight.”
The Broadway musical that celebrates Harlem’s Cotton Club, featuring the music of Duke Ellington and the Tony Award-winning choreography of Warren Carlyle, will close on June 29 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
The musical was critically acclaimed and nominated for a Tony Award for best musical but was never a big enough hit with audiences. A lively production number from the show was featured early in last week’s Tony Awards telecast.
The revolving cast of singers starring in the show, which opened in November, included k.d. lang, Patti LaBelle, Fantasia Barrino and Gladys Knight.
