A ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars’ special edition is coming to Showtime

A special edition of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars†is coming to Showtime immediately after the Season 12 finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race†wraps on VH1. Starting at 8 p.m. June 5, a selection of fan-favorite drag queens will return to compete once again for the coveted crown, a spot in the “Drag Race Hall of Fame†and $100,000.
Coinciding with Pride Month, this marks the first time the hit reality series will air on Showtime, which is known for scripted shows such as “Homeland,†“Shameless,†“Ray Donovan,†“The L Word: Generation Q,†“The Chi†and “Billions.â€
“‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars’ is a culture-defining show that fits perfectly within the contemporary programming Showtime offers in both scripted and unscripted,†said Jana Winograde, president of entertainment for Showtime Networks Inc., in a statement.
“We are excited to take advantage of our relationship with our new sister company VH1 to present a special edition of this sensational series and bring in this passionate and robust fan base. It’s the latest example of how we can leverage our combined portfolio to provide new experiences for our audience,†she added.
Showtime and VH1 now fall under the same corporate umbrella since the ViacomCBS merger was finalized in December.
Troubling signs emerged for ViacomCBS, which formed in December after the merger of the two companies.
The announcement comes a week after VH1 unveiled “Drag Race’s†guest judges for Season 12, including Nicki Minaj, Robyn, Leslie Jones, Normani, Daisy Ridley, Winnie Harlow, Jeff Goldblum, Thandie Newton, Chaka Khan, Olivia Munn, Rachel Bloom, Daniel Franzese, Jonathan Bennett and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
For the past two years, the popular “Drag Race†franchise has been a staple for VH1, collecting four Emmy Awards in 2019 for host, costumes, hairstyling and reality competition program. The show’s first eight seasons aired on Logo, which still has the reruns.
The 12th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,†starring its fabulous titular emcee, premieres Feb. 28.
