A third small earthquake in a day rattles area near Calexico
A magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported Saturday afternoon at 2:06 p.m. Pacific time two miles from Calexico, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred three miles from El Centro, Calif., seven miles from Imperial, Calif., 17 miles from Brawley, Calif. and 45 miles from San Luis, Ariz. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.2 miles.
Earlier on Saturday, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported at 7:48 a.m. Pacific time one mile from Calexico, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, hours after a magnitude 4.1 earthquake nearby.
The earthquake occurred three miles from El Centro, seven miles from Imperial, 16 miles from Brawley and 44 miles from San Luis, Ariz.
The 4.1 quake was reported at 5:07 a.m. Saturday two miles from Calexico.
In the past 10 days, there have been five earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
An average of 234 earthquakes with magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.0 occur per year in California and Nevada, according to a recent three-year data sample.
