Mother of boy found at L.A. River homeless encampment has been located, officials say
Authorities have located the mother of a young boy found at a homeless encampment in the Los Angeles River bed on Thursday, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said.
A social worker with the county Department of Children and Family Services will be meeting with the boy’s mother to reunite the two or, if necessary, to provide needed services for placement, officials said Friday. The boy, whose identity was not disclosed because he is a minor, is under the department’s care.
The Sheriff’s Department did not disclose any additional information about the boy’s family situation.
The boy was found around 10 a.m. in an encampment near the 710 and 105 freeways, according to the Sheriff’s Department. He was with an unidentified man at the encampment when he was found, according to authorities.
Anyone with information can call the Sheriff’s Department Lakewood Station at (562) 623-3500. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
