Hot Property: Adam Levine and Ellen DeGeneres make music in the housing market
No two celebrities have been as prolific in the real estate market in recent years as Adam Levine and Ellen DeGeneres. So, it’s fitting that the two have come together on a deal of their own.
Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo have sold their estate in Beverly Hills to DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, for $42.5 million.
Built in 1933 and recently renovated, the stately two-story has more than 10,000 square feet of living space, custom steel-framed windows and two kitchens. Other features include multiple wet bars, a screening room and a gym. A total of five bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, which includes a guesthouse, rounds out the living space.
Outside, the landscaped estate has space for entertaining in the form of a paver patio with a built-in barbecue and a fire pit.
An oval-shaped swimming pool sits below the patio area. Elsewhere on the acre-plus property is a tennis court and a putting green.
With the purchase, DeGeneres and De Rossi are the latest to add celebrity pedigree to the property. In addition to Levine and Prinsloo, the traditional-style home was previously owned by “Will & Grace†creator Max Mutchnick. Before Mutchnick, the estate was home to tennis star Pete Sampras and actress Bridgette Wilson.
Levine, 40, recently announced that he would not return as a coach on the singing competition series “The Voice,†on which he had appeared since 2010. He has won three Grammys as the lead vocalist for the pop-rock group Maroon 5.
DeGeneres, 61, has won multiple Emmys for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,†which premiered in 2003. Last year she co-created and produced the show “Little Big Shots†with Steve Harvey.
De Rossi, 46, has television credits that include the legal drama “Ally McBeal†and the sitcom “Arrested Development.â€
Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency handled both ends of the deal.
Sometimes you want to go
Producer-screenwriter Peter Casey, whose credits include sitcom staples such as “Cheers,†“Wings†and “Frasier,†has put his custom home in Toluca Lake up for sale at $7.998 million.
The traditional-style home sits on more than an acre of grounds where comedian-actor W.C. Fields once had a home. The former Fields residence was chopped into sections and moved in 1993 to Sylmar, where it was to be used as a child-care center. The current house, designed by Thane Roberts, was completed in 1995.
A two-story entry with a sweeping staircase sets the tone for the 6,602-square-foot interior. The lake-view formal living room features delicate molding, a fireplace and hardwood floors. A sunroom with wall-to-wall picture windows sits off the living area.
Dark wood paneling and an artistic plaster ceiling create visual interest in the library/den, which has another fireplace. The chef’s kitchen is equipped with two islands and a breakfast room. There’s also a glass-enclosed wine cellar.
A multi-room master suite with dual closets and a fireplace is among six bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.
Outside, arbors wrapped in creeping vines add ambiance to a dining patio. A stone-rimmed swimming pool and spa, a lakeside sitting area, a fireplace and lawn complete the setting.
Casey, a seven-time Emmy Award winner, worked as a writer on “The Jeffersons†before writing and producing scores of episodes of “Cheers.†He went on to co-create “Frasier†with writer-producers David Angell and David Lee.
Joy Denton of Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
Can’t help falling for an offer
Former actress Priscilla Presley has made quick work of selling a family home in Brentwood.
The 1949-built residence hit the market in early May for $3.65 million and had an offer in hand after 10 days. It sold for $3.8 million, or $150,000 more than the asking price.
Owned by Presley since 1976, three years after she divorced rock ’n’ roll king Elvis Presley, the single-story house had been used for decades by her mother, Ann Lillian Wagner-Beaulieu.
The corner-lot property has about 2,500 square feet of living space, four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Beamed ceilings top the living room, which has a fireplace. The kitchen opens to a covered dining patio.
Outside, grounds feature a concrete patio that surrounds the swimming pool. A lawn and mature trees fill out the sloping lot. There’s also a two-car garage.
Jonah Wilson of Hilton & Hyland held the listing. Cindy Ambuehl of Compass represented the buyer.
Presley, 74, was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and previously served as the chairwoman of Elvis Presley Enterprises. As an actress, she appeared in the “Naked Gun†films and on the prime-time television soap opera “Dallas.â€
His off-season plans: a sale
Memphis Grizzlies forward Chandler Parsons is looking to bring his tenure in Bel-Air to a close. Two years after paying $10.9 million for a contemporary home in the Westside neighborhood, he’s put the property on the market for $13.5 million.
Spanning three-quarters of an acre, the gated property centers on a modern farmhouse with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms in nearly 12,000 square feet of living area.
Though the interior remains the same, Parsons left a major mark on the 2016-built estate by adding a basketball court in the backyard. Wrapped in hedges, the outdoor space also holds a covered patio, a turf lawn and a zero-edge swimming pool and spa with LED lighting.
Shades of black and white color the living spaces, which include a two-story foyer with dual staircases, an indoor-outdoor living room and a sleek, whitewashed kitchen. Farther in, there’s a stylish family room with a wet bar and wine cellar.
Upstairs, a master suite under vaulted ceilings holds one of five fireplaces. A gym and movie theater with tiered seating also lie on the second story.
Parsons, 30, has played eight seasons in the NBA, spending time with the Rockets and Mavericks before inking a maximum four-year deal with the Grizzlies in 2016 worth $94 million.
Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage holds the listing.
Put a bow on it
Actress-singer Haylie Duff has put the finishing touches on a home sale in Studio City, selling her glammed-out two-story of three years for a little over $3.172 million.
The gated traditional-style home, built in 2016 and extensively updated during Duff’s ownership, features five bedrooms, six bathrooms and about 5,000 square feet of stylized living space.
A barn door to the dining room slides on exterior rails. The formal dining room, anchored by a stately fireplace, has vaulted ceilings. Custom cabinetry and a broad island/breakfast table highlight the updated kitchen.
Bi-folding doors open to a covered patio and trellis-topped dining area in the backyard. A lawn, mature trees and a saltwater swimming pool and spa fill out the roughly quarter-acre lot.
The property came up for sale in March with an asking price of $3.195 million. Duff paid $2.695 million for the house in 2016.
The 34-year-old is known for her television roles on “Lizzie McGuire†and “7th Heaven†as well as in the films “Napoleon Dynamite†and “Material Girls.†In addition to her TV work, Duff has also hosted numerous cooking and cooking competition shows including “The Real Girl’s Kitchen.â€
She is the older sister of actress-singer Hilary Duff.
Linda Ferrari of Keller Williams Realty was the listing agent. Carrie Berkman Lewis of Douglas Elliman represented the buyer.
