Former professional hockey player and coach Wayne Gretzky has sold a home in the Westlake Village area of Thousand Oaks for $5.85 million in a deal finalized outside the Multiple Listing Service.

On and off the market for the better part of three years, the 8,711-square-foot house had been listed for as much as $10.5 million, property records show. Gretzky, through a blind trust, paid $2.76 million for the property in 2009.

Found within the gated Sherwood Country Club, the single-story home features a formal entry, a remodeled kitchen and a library. Coffered ceilings, lavish chandeliers, paneled walls and distressed wood floors count among the eye-catching details. Contrasting light and dark hues give the interiors a contemporary, slightly lived-in vibe.

Fireplaces with elaborate mantles are found in the family, living and dining rooms as well as in the master bedroom. There are five bedrooms and six bathrooms in all.

Bi-folding doors extend the living space outside, where decking surrounds a swimming pool and spa. A pavilion sits across from the main house and has a built-in barbecue, a dining area, flat screen televisions and a fireplace.

A separate structure with a gym sits next to the pavilion. There’s also an attached garage.

Gretzky, 55, earned the nickname “The Great One†during a Hall of Fame career that spanned two decades. An 18-time All-Star, he is the NHL leader in all-time goals scored, with 894.
