Hard rock drummer Rick Allen of Def Leppard fame has sold his home in Calabasas for $1.645 million.

The contemporary retreat, built in 1982, came up for sale last year at $1.888 million and was more recently listed at $1.795 million, records show. Allen bought the property nine years ago for $1.66 million.

Sitting on nearly half an acre, the 2,166-square-foot house has a rustic vibe with vaulted wood ceilings and a river stone fireplace. Walls of windows and glass-paneled doors bring in views of the surrounding hillsides and scenery from all sides.

An open-plan kitchen, living and dining rooms, three bedrooms and three bathrooms are among the living spaces. The great room has a fireplace and a wall of built-in bookshelves with a rolling ladder.

Wide decking extends the living space outdoors and wraps the exterior. Mature trees, a Zen-inspired rock garden and a swimming pool also lie within the grounds.

Allen, whose nickname is the Thunder God, has played with Def Leppard since he was 15. The 52-year-old lost an arm in 1984, but resumed playing two years later using a custom drum kit. Among the heavy-metal band’s hits are “Photograph,†“Bringin’ on the Heartache†and “Hysteria.†The group has sold more than 100 million albums.

Dana Olmes and Jeffery Biebuyck of Ewing Sotheby’s International Real Estate were the listing agents. Susan Andrews of John Aaroe Group represented the buyer.
