Television spiritualist James Van Praagh sells his Laguna Beach retreat
No doubt television clairvoyant James Van Praagh had an inkling he’d find a buyer for his Laguna Beach compound. The two-house retreat recently sold for $3.05 million.
Entered from a gated driveway, the nearly three-quarter-acre spread features unobstructed views of the ocean and Santa Catalina Island.
The contemporary main house, built in 1972, has high ceilings and walls of glass that take in the natural surroundings.
A living room with a fireplace, an open-concept kitchen, an office, a family room, a formal dining room, three bedrooms and three bathrooms are among the living spaces. The master suite opens to a deck with a hot tub.
The newer two-story guesthouse cantilevers over the grounds and has two bedrooms.
Lighted pathways crisscross the site, which has numerous gardens, patios and a waterfall that cascades into a koi pond.
The spiritual medium and author, who was co-executive producer of the supernatural TV series “Ghost Whisperer,†bought the property in 1998 for $855,000 and had priced it most recently at $3.395 million. He co-produced, co-wrote and appeared in the 2002 TV movie “Living With the Dead,†based on his book “Talking to Heaven.â€
