Jennifer Lawrence satisfies a hunger for a house
Actress Jennifer Lawrence of “The Hunger Games†films has bought a house in Beverly Crest for $8.225 million.
Among recent owners is singer and television personality Jessica Simpson, who handed it off a year ago to the current seller, billionaire Sumner Redstone’s girlfriend Sydney Holland.
What a difference a year makes. Simpson had aspirations of selling the property near the $8-million mark when she listed it in May 2013 but ended up selling to Holland for $6.4 million.
The 5,500-square-foot French-style house was built in 1991 and has high ceilings, an updated kitchen, an office, five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The front of the house has a stone and floral courtyard with a koi pond. The backyard contains a lawn and a swimming pool.
Lawrence, 24, won a lead actress Oscar for “Silver Linings Playbook†(2012). She has been in the films “American Hustle†(2013), “Winter’s Bone†(2010) and “The Burning Plain†(2008) and was in the sitcom “The Bill Engvall Show†from 2007 to 2009.
The property came on the market in July at $7.895 million.

Don Johnson, known for his fashion-setting role as a stubble-faced detective on “Miami Vice,†and his wife, Kelley Phleger, are shopping their gated estate in Santa Barbara at $14.9 million.
Set on 2.76 acres with ocean and mountain views, the French countryside-inspired home has 11,229 square feet of living space.
There is a family room with an A-frame ceiling, a formal dining room, four bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
Mature oak trees, a one-bedroom guesthouse, a swimming pool, an outdoor fireplace, an in-ground trampoline and a dog run complete the grounds.
The couple paid $12.5 million for the property last year, public records show.
Johnson, 64, starred on “Miami Vice†from 1984 to 1990 and on “Nash Bridges†from 1996 to 2001. This year he has been in the series “From Dusk Till Dawn†and the films “Cold in July†and “The Other Woman.â€

Not your average new build
Writer-producer-director Jeff Franklin, creator of the television show “Full House,†has listed a mansion he had built on spec in Hollywood Hills West. The asking price has been reported at $30 million, although it is currently listed as “price on request.â€
Designed by architect Richard Landry, the contemporary house is set on a nearly half-acre knoll above the Sunset Strip with city and ocean views. The grounds include an infinity-edge swimming pool with a spa.
A sweeping circular staircase connects the three levels of living space, which extends outdoors through numerous balconies and patio space.
The master suite features a retractable skylight with a motorized blackout shade, walls of glass, a fireplace and an indoor-outdoor shower. There are three other bedrooms, a bonus room that could be used as a bedroom, a home theater and eight bathrooms.
The subterranean garage has room for six cars and was designed to double as a nightclub.
Franklin, 59, also created the series “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper.â€
He bought the property in 1988 for $1.9 million.

Portrait photographer Mark Seliger has listed his Richard Neutra-designed house in Los Feliz at $4.5 million.
Restored to maintain its architectural integrity, the 1949 Alpha Wirin House is a prime example of Neutra’s Midcentury Modern work.

Poppy Montgomery of “Unforgettable†has put a house in Brentwood up for sale at $3.695 million.
Built in 1950, the updated hacienda-style home has a courtyard entry, vaulted-beam ceilings and wrought-iron railings. The nearly 3,100 square feet of living space includes an office, a library, a center-island kitchen, three fireplaces, three bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
French doors open to a terrace with another fireplace and a swimming pool. The quarter-acre lot contains a lawn and vineyards.
Montgomery, 42, starred in the recently canceled police drama since 2011. She also starred in “Without a Trace†(2002 to ‘09).
The actress bought the property a year ago for $3.6 million, public records show.

Singer-songwriter-actor John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen, have listed their home in Hollywood Hills for $1.995 million.
Set on more than a quarter-acre on a cul-de-sac, the remodeled 1960s contemporary has nearly 2,000 square feet of Asian-inspired interiors that complement the home’s gardens, fountains and outdoor bathtub. Steps lead up to a hot tub.
Custom details include etched teak cabinetry, textured stone floors and rain gutters insulated for low sound. The home features an open-plan living area with beamed cathedral ceilings, a center-island kitchen, an expansive deck, three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. One of the bedrooms serves as a recording studio.
Legend, 35, has won nine Grammys, including three in 2010 for writing the R&B song “Shine,†for performance on “Hang on in There†and for best R&B album (“Wake Upâ€).
Teigen, 28, appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated this year. The couple were married last year.
Legend bought the property in 2007 for $1.512 million public records show.
