Google+ gets custom URLs, begins rollout to verified accounts
Google has begun rolling out custom URLs to some verified accounts and pages on Google+, the company said Monday.
The Mountain View, Calif., company made the announcement on its Google+ profile page, which can now be found at plus.google.com/+googleplus.
The new feature, which has always been on Twitter and has been a part of Facebook for some time now, is currently limited to just some brand pages and celebrities, but Google said it will soon get to other users too.
“While we’re not quite ready for everyone to start claiming their own custom URLs, we plan to expand the availability over time, so stay tuned!†the company said in a post.
A Google product manager also made a post about the new custom URLs, mentioning why custom URLs are helpful and in demand on Google+.
“A custom URL is a short, easy to remember Web address that links directly to your profile or page on Google+,†said Saurabh Sharma.
Sharma then revealed a couple of accounts that have received the custom-URL treatment, including those of Hugo Boss, David Beckham, Hugh Jackman, Toyota, Britney Spears, Assassins Creed and Delta.
