‘It’s not a prequel!’ - J.K. Rowling on the new Harry Potter play
It’s not a prequel. How many times does she have to say it?
A new Harry Potter story is coming — not in a book but to the stage. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” will open in London in the summer of 2016.
The play is to be considered part of the boy wizard’s canon, says author J.K. Rowling, who collaborated on the project with writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany.
But it is not a prequel.
It’s really not.
Rowling took to Twitter, where she has 4.85 million followers, to make her point. Since the announcement of the play on Friday, she has tweeted that it is not a prequel over and over and over again. Her messages were retweeted, in total, more than 20,000 times by her fans.
Some even started teasing her. When one wrote, “could you tell us more about this prequel you have written? I fear some folk may have the wrong idea about it,” she replied with, “*I must not swear on Twitter. I must not swear on Twitter...*”
More information about the play can be found in late July at HarryPottertheplayLondon.com. Tickets are expected to go on sale in the fall.
