Database will let law enforcement agencies share up-to-date crime data
Local law enforcement agencies unveiled a database Tuesday that will allow authorities to instantly access nearby crime data, social services and community leaders from computers in their patrol cars.
The interagency database, officials said, will for the first time let the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles Police Department and other agencies quickly share up-to-date crime data across jurisdictional borders.
Sheriff Lee Baca, appearing alongside LAPD Chief Charlie Beck at a news conference in Monterey Park, called the new technology a “toolbox of information all cops deserve to have.â€
The system is expected to be operating in much of Los Angeles and Orange counties by the end of the year.
