UCLA, Cal State Fullerton to host regional baseball championships

UCLA and Cal State Fullerton were among the 16 regional sites selected for the Division I baseball championships, the NCAA announced Sunday.

UCLA (43-13), which finished in second place behind Arizona State in the Pacific 10 Conference, will host a regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium for the second time, the first since 1986.

“We had good crowds all season long and the atmosphere around the ballpark has been pretty good since day one,†UCLA Coach John Savage said in a telephone interview. “So we’re happy to be hosting, and I think this team earned it.â€

Big West Conference champion Fullerton (41-15) is hosting for the ninth time.

The 64-team bracket, including 30 teams receiving automatic berths and 34 at-large selections, will be announced Monday. The four-team regionals are played in a double-elimination format. All regionals begin Friday and continue through June 7. Eight super-regional sites will be announced June 7. The College World Series begins June 19 at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.

Other regional hosts are Arizona State (47-8), Arkansas (40-18), Auburn (40-19), Coastal Carolina (51-7), Connecticut (47-14), Florida (42-15), Georgia Tech (45-13), Louisville (48-12), Miami (40-17), Oklahoma (44-15), South Carolina (43-15), Texas (46-11), Texas Christian (46-11) and Virginia (47-11).
