‘Survivor’ producer, wanted for questioning in Mexico, returns to L.A.
“Survivor†producer Bruce Beresford-Redman, who was being sought for questioning by Mexican authorities, has returned to Los Angeles, according to his lawyer.
Mexican law enforcement officials had told the producer to remain in Mexico following the death of his wife last month, when the couple was vacationing in Cancun. On Sunday, however, attorney Richard Hirsch issued a statement saying Beresford-Redman had returned to Los Angeles to be with his children and to attend to family and personal matters.
Mexican authorities said they had been looking for Beresford-Redman for several days so they could ask him more questions regarding the death of his wife. Her body was found in a sewer pipe near the couple’s hotel.
Hirsch said Beresford-Redman was not obligated to stay in Mexico.
“He has no legal obligation to remain in Mexico pending an investigation into the tragic death of his wife, Monica,†Hirsch wrote. “Mr. Beresford-Redman has not been charged with any crime, and has retained legal representation in both Mexico and the United States.â€
Francisco Alor, attorney general of the state of Quintana Roo, where Cancun is located, had said Saturday that it would be a “very delicate and serious†matter if Beresford-Redman were to leave Mexico.
According to relatives, the Los Angeles couple had gone on vacation to repair their marriage, which had become strained.
Hirsch said Beresford-Redman asked the public to respect the family’s privacy during this time of “great grief and sorrow.â€
“He is devastated by the loss of his wife, best friend, and the mother of his children,†Hirsch wrote.
