Prosecutors said they have placed 12 people under investigation over the collapse of a university dormitory that came to symbolize the shoddy construction blamed for so many deaths in Italy’s April 6 earthquake.
Eight students died in the dorm, and the building became a focal point of grief during the rescue and cleanup effort after the magnitude 6.3 temblor in the city of L’Aquila. In all, about 300 people were killed and 50,000 driven from their homes.
L’Aquila chief prosecutor Alfredo Rossini told state-run RAI television that those who have been placed under investigation will now be brought in for questioning.
