NATIONAL BRIEFING

Times Wire Reports

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III rejected suggestions that poor coordination between the FBI and the New York Police Department damaged the investigation of an Afghan immigrant charged with plotting a bomb attack in New York City.

A criminal complaint from the case suggests that police detectives might have inadvertently helped reveal the surveillance of Najibullah Zazi, 24, and compromised the investigation. Mueller disputed that in testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
