HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Woodland Hills Taft (24-3) vs. Los Angeles Fairfax (25-3) at USC’s Galen Center
Today, 2 p.m.
Why it matters: This City Section Division I semifinal is a rematch of last year’s final won by Taft, 65-55, when point guard Larry Drew Jr. proved too much for the Lions. Drew is now a freshman at North Carolina, and Fairfax has the City’s most dominant big man in 6-foot-11 Renardo Sidney, who will be playing in his first game at the Galen Center since announcing last week that he would attend USC. Taft’s strength is in its guard play, with three-point specialist Michael Williams and Nevada Las Vegas-bound Justin Hawkins. Terran Carter is a dependable rebounder. Fairfax will need help from another USC-bound player, forward Solomon Hill. In the first game of the doubleheader at noon, Westchester (28-2) will play Reseda Cleveland (20-7).
