Regarding Mike Morris’ “Baby Steps? No, a Giant Leap” [Feb. 8]. Our son was on the road, camping and traveling in Mexico and Guatemala by VW bus when he was 4 months old. We used to eat at the tables in mercados centrales throughout the southern region, calmly handing our baby to cooks, vendors and their families. He was enthralled with all the attention. We were grateful to be able to eat an uninterrupted meal. When he was 3, we packed him on the back of a bicycle and road from Srinigar to Ladakh, India. In Nepal, he rode in a porter’s basket. He was a goodwill ambassador. Our belief about people’s kindness was reaffirmed. And he is now a remarkable young man.
