HUNTINGTON BEACH EDISON 2,

HUNTINGTON BEACH MARINA 1 (10 INNINGS)

Leading contributors: Edison’s Henry Owens and Marina’s Race Parmenter each pitched seven solid innings, giving up only one run apiece. Eric Snyder hit a home run for the Chargers and Chad Lewis hit a run-scoring double for the Vikings.

The scoop: Josh Lesinski doubled to left field with two out in the 10th inning and pinch-runner Jon Torres scored the go-ahead run when Donald Sneed reached out on a two-strike pitch and hit a bloop single to left-center field.

Why it matters: Edison improved to 2-0 this season against Marina -- winning both games by one run in its final at-bat -- and took a one-game lead over the Vikings in the Sunset League going into Friday’s final regular-season meeting between the city rivals. Kurt Heyer (6-1), who is scheduled to start for the Chargers, pitched the final three innings Wednesday to record the victory.
