ARCADIA INVITATIONAL
Top contributors: Michael Woepse of Santa Ana Mater Dei won the pole vault, clearing 16 feet 9 inches. Reggie Wyatt of Riverside La Sierra won the 300-meter hurdles in 36.01 seconds. Elias Gedyon of Loyola won the mile run in 4:08.69.
The scoop: Woepse credited his performance to a different approach on his jump. “On the other ones, I would come out of it early,” he said. “On that one, I stayed behind the pole.”
Why it matters: Woepse’s clearing of 16-9 set an Orange County record, breaking the 16-8 mark set by St. Margaret’s Johnny Quinn. Greg Woepse, a UCLA sophomore and Michael’s brother, and Marina’s Logan Odden are tied for third at 16-7.
