at Boston 4, Ottawa 0: Tim Thomas stopped 34 shots for his third shutout of the season, and David Krejci had a goal and two assists for the eighth-place Bruins, who have 90 points -- one behind Philadelphia and the New York Rangers for sixth in the Eastern Conference.
Edmonton 2, at Calgary 1: Dustin Penner’s power-play goal 10:48 into the third period ended a 1-1 tie and gave the Oilers a much-needed win in their quest for a playoff spot.
They are tied with Nashville and Vancouver for eighth in the West
with 86 points.
Philadelphia 4, at N.Y. Islanders 3 (SO): Danny Briere scored the only goal in the shootout for the Flyers, who rallied twice in the third period at Uniondale, N.Y. Wade Dubielewicz made a career-high 51 saves for New York.
at Toronto 4, Montreal 2: Rookies Anton Stralman and Jiri Tlusty each scored two goals and the Maple Leafs, already eliminated from playoff contention, beat the Eastern Conference-leading Canadiens, who failed to put more distance between them and second-place Pittsburgh.
Washington 3, at Florida 1: Cristobal Huet stopped 32 shots for his fourth shutout of the season, and Viktor Kozlov had a goal and two assists as the Capitals won for the eighth time in nine games. They have 88 points, two behind eighth-place Boston in the East.
Chicago 4, at St.. Louis 3: Duncan Keith and Craig Adams scored short-handed goals as the Blackhawks kept their faint playoff hopes alive, moving to within four points of eighth-place Nashville in the West.
at Tampa Bay 2, Carolina 1: Jeff Halpern scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and Karri Ramo had 38 saves as the Lightning, last in the East, beat the Southeast Division-leading Hurricanes.
Dallas 7, at Kings 2: Loui Eriksson scored two goals less than 3 1/2 minutes apart during a four-goal second period at Staples Center and the Stars won for only the second time in 10 games.
