Panel delays vote on water wasters

The Department of Water and Power Commission has delayed for one day a vote on its planned crackdown on water wasters.
The commission, whose members are appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, had questions about the plan to impose larger fines on residents and business owners who hose off their sidewalks, wash their cars without a nozzle or run their sprinklers between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The five-member panel will reconvene today. The plan, which would be enforced by about a dozen “drought busters,” also must be approved by the Los Angeles City Council.
