Alitalia gets government loan

The Italian government approved emergency financing worth 300 million euros ($478 million) for Alitalia, a day after Air France-KLM announced it had yanked its bid for the state-run airline.
The loan approved by the outgoing Cabinet of Prime Minister Romano Prodi is aimed at keeping cash-strapped Alitalia afloat and averting immediate bankruptcy protection.
