NFL draft

* SAN FRANCISCO: Coordinator Mike Martz is known for his offensive pyrotechnics. But in the case of the 49ers, he has to get down to basics, which means restocking with quality offensive linemen. He’ll have to do some searching and finger-crossing in this draft, though, seeing as San Francisco doesn’t pick until the end of the first round. As a result, the 49ers might reach for a pass rusher to pick up some of the slack left by the retired Bryant Young.
* SEATTLE: At some point, the Seahawks are going to need to address their running game, which has really sputtered of late. They could use their top pick this year to latch on to another gem: USC tight end Fred Davis. That position is essential to the West Coast offense, and Marcus Pollard isn’t getting the job done. Davis stayed in school for his senior year, and that’s about to pay off for him in a big way.
* ST. LOUIS: Because the Rams select second, their move is directly linked to what Miami does with the top pick. There’s a good chance the top of the draft will be a Long story -- that Michigan tackle Jake Long and Virginia defensive end Chris Long will go first and second, or vice versa. There’s a chance the Rams will take Ohio State pass rusher Vernon Gholston or Louisiana State defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.
* ARIZONA: Even before they moved Antrel Rolle to safety, the Cardinals needed help at cornerback. Because they don’t have the salary-cap space to address that in a significant way through free agency, they need to do so in the draft. They have the 16th pick, which should give them the chance to take the third-rated cornerback, which is either Tennessee State’s Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or South Florida’s Mike Jenkins. There’s a chance they’ll take a running back.
