An actor playing the role of a Black Panther leader in a play at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles was stabbed to death early Saturday morning after leaving a party in the Palms area of L.A.
Darius Ever Truly, 26, who was appearing as Bobby Seale in “The Chicago Conspiracy Trial,” a reenactment of the 1969 trial of the “Chicago 8,” had attended the party after a performance of the play. According to police, Truly and a female cousin were attacked by unknown assailants while walking down the street. Truly died at the scene; his cousin was listed in stable condition at a local hospital.
Truly, who had come to L.A. from Memphis to perform in the Odyssey production, “was such a powerful young actor, with so much going for him,” said Frank Condon, who directed and co-wrote the play. The company is devastated by the news, Condon said. “He lit up a room, he had such charm and brashness and everybody loved him. It’s a huge loss.”
