UC Berkeley to use $25million to hire staff

The largest donation ever to the UC Berkeley business school, a gift of $25 million announced two years ago, will be shifted from a scrapped construction project to an endowment fund to pay for professors’ salaries and to hire faculty.
University officials said at least five professors will be added because of the donation, boosting the roster of full-time business faculty to 86.
UC Berkeley also disclosed that the donor, who previously asked to remain anonymous, is San Francisco real estate developer Gerson Bakar.
Tom Campbell, dean of UC Berkeley’s business school, said he wanted to switch the use of the funds because adding faculty is a higher priority for the school.
