Animal rescuers caught a stubborn sea lion Monday that had wandered into a popular Newport Beach tourist spot and refused to be lured back to the ocean.
The roughly 600-pound creature came back to shore less than a week after it was returned to sea by rescuers who had rehabilitated the animal, said Kirsten Sedlick of the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.
The animal was spotted on the shore at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina. Rescuers tried for several hours to shoo it toward the ocean, but it wouldn’t budge.
