Re “Immigration’s lost voices,” Opinion, June 13
Jorge G. Castaneda, former foreign minister of Mexico, writes: “The collapse of the bipartisan immigration deal in the Senate last week sends a terrible message.” How would Castaneda feel if government officials in other countries made similar statements in response to Mexico’s efforts to control its borders? Would he and other Mexican leaders feel OK if foreign governments interfered with and tried to impose their will on Mexico?
Mexican citizen Carlos Slim Helu is now the world’s second wealthiest person. Instead of pressuring American taxpayers to support his countrymen, Castaneda should pressure his government to improve life for Mexicans.
