* Texas 5, at Boston 4: One day after striking out with the bases loaded in the Rangers’ 2-1 loss, Sammy Sosa hit home run No. 602 off the front row of Fenway Park’s Monster Seats to break a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning. That deprived Josh Beckett (11-2) of a chance to match C.C. Sabathia as the only 12-game winners in the majors.

* Chicago 3, at Kansas City 1 (10 innings): Tadahito Iguchi poked a two-run single into right field with two out in the 10th. Octavio Dotel started the inning and gave up a single to A.J. Pierzynski and hit Scott Podsednik, who reached for the fourth time in the game. With two out, Paul Konerko was walked intentionally, loading the bases for Iguchi.

* Minnesota 8, at Detroit 5: Michael Cuddyer and Lew Ford homered and drove in three runs apiece to help the Twins hand the Tigers their fourth loss in five games.

* at Cleveland 8, Tampa Bay 6: C.C. Sabathia became the majors’ first 12-game winner. He matched last season’s win total, and is 7-1 with a 2.62 earned-run average in his last 10 starts. He is 9-1 in 12 home starts this season.

* at Seattle 8, Toronto 3: Miguel Batista outpitched Roy Halladay and the Mariners won their seventh in a row. It’s their longest winning streak since a nine-game run from May 27 to June 5, 2003.

* Oakland 7, at New York 0: Chad Gaudin combined with Rich Harden on a one-hitter. The last time the Yankees managed only one hit was Sept. 28, when Baltimore’s Daniel Cabrera took a no-hitter into the ninth before Robinson Cano singled with one out.

* at Baltimore 6, Angels 3: Chone Figgins, who hit safely in 25 of 26 games in June, had an RBI triple.
