A 17-year-old student at Bonita High School in La Verne was detained late Saturday after he vanished Thursday and six guns and ammunition were reported missing from his parents’ home.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found Matthew Wanamaker at an Ontario hotel and believe that he was involved in stealing the firearms, officials said Sunday. School officials canceled classes Friday at Bonita High, concerned about reports that he had threatened violence against someone connected with the school.
