Two Hesperia men were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of killing a man and then setting his body afire, officials said Thursday.
Harold Meeks, 27, and Virgil Wilkins, 22, lured Alberto Cervantes, 37, of Hesperia to an isolated spot in the desert March 8 before beating and kidnapping him, said Arden Wiltshire, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies responding to calls about a burning vehicle off Santa Fe Road near Hesperia Road discovered Cervantes’ burned body in the bed of the truck, authorities said.
Investigators believe the motive for killing the victim was robbery, Wiltshire said.
