Prime Ruler, who disappointed at 2-1 in the Del Mar Futurity, will try to bounce back in the second race today at Santa Anita.

Owned by Charles Cono and trained by Chris Paasch, the 2-year-old Orientate colt is the even-money favorite on Jeff Tufts’ morning line in the $42,000 optional claimer at six furlongs.

Before he finished last in the Futurity, Prime Ruler had been impressive in his debut on Aug. 5 at Del Mar. The $200,000 purchase earlier this year at Barretts won by two lengths after falling far off the early pace.

Alex Solis, who was aboard for that win, is back on Prime Ruler this afternoon. Solis missed the Futurity because of injury.

Bitter Bill, Stella’s Posada, Mr. Negotiator and Sandy Lane will provide the opposition.

Race of the day: Put Away The Halo, which might be a hunch play for some given the fact the Angels have been eliminated from the playoff chase, will try for her fifth win in nine starts in the $65,000 Numbered Account today at Belmont Park. Channing Hill will ride the 3-year-old Put It Back filly for owner Broadwall Farm and trainer John Rodriguez in the race at one mile.

The field also includes Overocks, I’mtoogoodtobetrue, Carlow, Lady Of Clare, Judy Soda, Phyllis Sassy Girl and Grecian Lover.

One for the road: Ramos Fizz goes first off the claim for sharp trainer Lloyd Mason and can win for the second time in a row in the seventh race today at Golden Gate Fields. Apprentice Luis Martinez will ride the 2-year-old Richly Blended gelding for owners Edward and Theresa DeNike in the $20,000 starter allowance at six furlongs. Ramos Fizz was claimed for $32,000 out of a four-length win on Aug. 27 and the runner-up (Groupofthefuture) was a next-out winner.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Under House Arrest, Great Action and Papa Squirrel in the sixth, Phar To Win in the seventh and Slew’s Prayer, Little Teaser and Smoked Duck in the eighth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 6/6. Money: (previous day/meet total): $33.60/$33.60. Total money bet: $18.
