Forsberg’s two goals lift Flyers
Peter Forsberg scored twice, including a spectacular goal in the third period, and Robert Esche recorded the 10th shutout of his career in the Philadelphia Flyers’ 3-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night at Philadelphia.
Esche was especially sharp in the second period when he made 15 of his 26 saves and helped kill three Chicago power plays.
Forsberg put the Flyers ahead 7:25 into the first period and made it 2-0 at 11:57 of the third period when he stick-handled around Patrick Sharp and slid a backhander past goalie Brian Boucher.
Toronto 4, Atlanta 2 -- Darcy Tucker’s two power-play goals led the host Maple Leafs to their eighth consecutive victory over the Thrashers.
Washington 4, Calgary 2 -- Richard Zednik, recently demoted to the Capitals’ fourth line, got his first two goals of the season to help beat the Flames at Calgary, Canada.
