Troops at War Get Tax-Free Pay Hike

Britain announced pay increases for its troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The increases are designed to put British soldiers on a more equal salary footing with their counterparts from other countries, many of whom do not pay taxes on their pay while on tours of duty.
The government said it would pay tax-free, flat-rate bonuses to front-line soldiers that would amount to an additional $4,170 over a six-month tour of duty.
