‘Bobby’ gets Kennedy approval
The widow and daughter of Robert F. Kennedy have given their rare blessing to a project about the late senator and one-time U.S. attorney general: the film “Bobby,†set for release next month.
In statements released Friday by the Weinstein Co., which is distributing the movie, Ethel Kennedy and her daughter Kerry thanked the filmmakers and expressed hope that young people would see the film and, in the younger Kennedy’s words, “find the inspiration to dedicate themselves to all he sought to achieve.â€
Written and directed by Emilio Estevez, “Bobby†follows an assortment of characters in L.A.’s Ambassador Hotel on the night Kennedy was fatally shot. It will kick off the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival on Nov. 1 and opens in theaters here and New York on Nov. 17.
