Kansas City 10, at Detroit 8: The Tigers wasted a great chance to win the AL Central, blowing a six-run lead and then watching All-Star starter Kenny Rogers give a bases-loaded walk to Emil Brown in the 12th inning. The Tigers are the AL wild-card team and will open the playoffs Tuesday night at New York.
Toronto 7, at New York 5: With the score tied in the ninth, Adam Lind hit a two-run, two-out homer against Kyle Farnsworth (3-6) and the Blue Jays finished second in the AL East, ending a run of eight consecutive second-place finishes by Boston. Bernie Williams served as acting manager for the Yankees.
at Boston 9, Baltimore 0: In only his second major league outing, Devern Hansack (1-1) did not give up a hit for five innings before the game was called because of rain, resulting in a win for Boston but not rewarding the rookie with official credit for a no-hitter, which counts only in a complete game that goes at least nine innings.
at Cleveland 6, Tampa Bay 3: Cliff Lee (14-11) pitched nine innings for the first time in his career, and Jhonny Peralta had two runs batted in for the Indians.
at Seattle 3, Texas 2: Richie Sexson hit his 34th home run, in the second inning, and Adrian Beltre singled after Yuniesky Betancourt doubled to break a 2-2 tie in the third.
