Posse of 250 Arrests One in Its First Foray

A 250-member sheriff’s posse assembled to catch illegal immigrants made just one arrest in its first overnight desert search.
The posse patrolled in the desert and along major roads southwest of Phoenix. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio speculated that the night was slow because potential border crossers had heard that the county was cracking down. He said the operation would continue.
